Mosaic Inaugurates Strategic Fertilizer Facility in Northern Brazil

The Mosaic Company (NYSE: MOS) has officially commissioned its new $84 million fertilizer complex in Palmeirante, Tocantins, marking a significant milestone in the company’s Northern Brazil expansion strategy. The state-of-the-art blending, storage and distribution facility – inaugurated July 16, 2025 under the leadership of Executive Vice President Jenny Wang – positions Mosaic to capitalize on the rapidly developing MATOPIBA agricultural region (encompassing Maranhão, Tocantins, Piauí and Bahia states).

Facility Specifications and Operational Advantages

The Palmeirante plant features cutting-edge operational capabilities:

  • Annual capacity: 1 million metric tons (500,000 tons projected for 2025)

  • Advanced automation: Computer-controlled blending systems with precision nutrient formulation

  • Logistics infrastructure:

    • 50,000-ton bulk storage capacity

    • Dedicated rail spur connecting to Itaqui port (reducing transport costs by ~15%)

    • Automated bagging line with 2,400 bags/hour throughput

“By situating this facility at the crossroads of MATOPIBA’s expanding farmland, we’re eliminating critical bottlenecks in fertilizer distribution,” explained Wang during the inauguration. “Farmers gain just-in-time access to customized blends while benefiting from our integrated supply chain.”
