Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture Leads Four Initiatives at COP30 to Drive Global Farming Transformation

During the UN Climate Change Conference (COP30) held in Belém, Brazil, in November 2025, Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa) took center stage in the global response to the climate crisis. The ministry spearheaded or co-led four “Accelerated Solution Initiatives,” showcasing Brazil’s commitment to advancing sustainable, low-carbon agricultural systems worldwide.

These initiatives span multiple critical areas:

  • The RAIZ Initiative, in collaboration with international organizations, focuses on restoring degraded agricultural land, attracting investment, and enhancing food security.

  • The Fertilizer Efficiency Program aims to optimize the use of mineral and organic fertilizers, reduce overuse, and promote low-carbon production.

  • The Agricultural Carbon Removal Initiative centers on carbon capture technologies to improve soil health and climate resilience.

  • The Sustainable Livestock Program works to reduce methane emissions, promote eco-friendly production methods, and increase farmers’ income.

Brazil’s Agriculture Minister, Carlos Fávaro, emphasized that the country is demonstrating through concrete actions that food production, environmental protection, and sustainable development can go hand in hand. These efforts not only highlight Brazil’s leadership in aligning agriculture with climate action but also position its agricultural sector as an essential part of the global climate solution.

Through multilateral cooperation and innovative practices, Brazil’s Ministry of Agriculture has demonstrated at COP30 its determination to drive the transformation of agricultural systems, offering tangible pathways for the world to tackle the climate crisis.
