China’s fertilizer exports accelerated significantly in 2025, according to preliminary statistics from China Customs. From January to December 2025, China exported a total of 46.272 million tons of major-element fertilizers, representing a substantial year-on-year increase of 44.0%. The total export value reached $13.755 billion, soaring by 57.9% compared to the same period in the previous year.
In December 2025 alone, China exported 3.413 million tons of various fertilizers, up 19.3% year-on-year, with the export value amounting to $819 million, a 17.0% increase compared to December 2024.
On the import side, China imported a total of 14.009 million tons of various fertilizers from January to December 2025, a slight year-on-year decrease of 0.7%. However, the total import value rose by 5.6% to $4.822 billion.
In December 2025, China imported 1.577 million tons of fertilizers with a total value of $575 million, resulting in an average customs-declared CIF (Cost, Insurance, and Freight) price of $364.55 per ton.
