Three New Pesticide Active Ingredients Receive ISO Common Names

The ISO Technical Committee on Pesticide Nomenclature (ISO/TC 81) has recently approved formal common names for three pesticide active ingredients: carmeconazole, sulfindoflufen, and enprocymid. Details of the newly named compounds are as follows:

Carmeconazole (苯醚甲酯唑)

Chinese chemical name: rac-(2R)-2-[2-chloro-4-(4-chlorophenoxy)phenyl]-2-hydroxy-3-(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)propanoate
English chemical name: methyl α-[2-chloro-4-(4-chlorophenoxy)phenyl]-α-hydroxy-1H-1,2,4-triazole-1-propanoate

Originator: Kureha Corporation

As a triazole fungicide, carmeconazole is applicable to a wide range of crops including wheat, rice, barley, corn, soybeans, rapeseed, vegetables, and fruit trees. Application methods include foliar spray, seed treatment, soil drenching, and water surface treatment. The active ingredient can be formulated as wettable powder and emulsion formulations.

Sulfindoflufen (吲哚螨砜)

Chinese chemical name: rac-2-{2-fluoro-4-methyl-5-[(R)-2,2,2-trifluoroethylsulfinyl]phenyl}-2,3-dihydro-1H-isoindol-1-one
English chemical name: 2-[2-fluoro-4-methyl-5-[(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl)sulfinyl]phenyl]-2,3-dihydro-1H-isoindol-1-one [2410561-41-8]

Originator: Shaanxi Shangge Luhu Bio-science Co., Ltd., China

Sulfindoflufen represents the fourth compound with trifluoroethyl sulfide (sulfoxide) structure reported in China, following bifluorex, benzylflufenzin, and fluthiofen. It demonstrates efficacy against various mite families including Tetranychidae (two-spotted spider mite, carmine spider mite, European red mite, citrus red mite, Kanzawa spider mite, hawthorn spider mite), Eriophyidae, Tarsonemidae, Tenuipalpidae, and others. The compound can be combined with abamectin, etoxazole, fenbutatin oxide, cyflumetofen, spirodiclofen, bifenazate, tebufenpyrad, acequinocyl, chlorfenapyr, cyenopyrafen, spiromesifen, flufenerdim, isocycloseram, flupyrophen, and pydiflumetofen in formulations.

Enprocymid (烯丙唑菌胺)

Chinese chemical name: N-cyclopropyl-N-[2-(2,4-dichlorophenyl)prop-2-en-1-yl]-3-(difluoromethyl)-5-fluoro-1-methyl-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxamide
English chemical name: N-cyclopropyl-N-[2-(2,4-dichlorophenyl)-2-propen-1-yl]-3-(difluoromethyl)-5-fluoro-1-methyl-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxamide

Originator: Jiangsu Flag Chemical Industry Co., Ltd., China

Enprocymid is a novel pyrazole carboxamide fungicide developed by Jiangsu Flag in 2021. It exhibits control efficacy against various diseases including wheat powdery mildew, wheat sharp eyespot, cucumber powdery mildew, potato late blight, wheat Fusarium head blight, rice bakanae disease, rapeseed Sclerotinia rot, corn northern leaf blight and southern leaf blight, wheat stripe rust, cucumber gray mold, tomato early blight, pepper Phytophthora blight, and watermelon Fusarium wilt.

The approval of these three common names by ISO/TC 81 marks an important step in the international standardization of these active ingredients, facilitating their registration and commercialization in global markets.
