China’s Synthetic Ammonia Imports Edge Up in September

China’s synthetic ammonia imports saw a significant monthly increase but a slight annual decline in September 2025, according to the latest customs data.

The import volume reached 33,112.081 metric tons last month, surging 89.33% from August though dipping 3.54% year-on-year. The import value stood at $13.945 million, resulting in an average price of $421.15 per ton.

Indonesia dominated China’s synthetic ammonia import sources, supplying 32,997.813 tons that accounted for 99.65% of September’s total imports.

Guangdong and Shanghai emerged as the primary import hubs. Guangdong received 22,992.592 tons, representing 69.44% of the national total, while Shanghai imported 10,017.022 tons, making up 30.25%.

On the export front, China shipped 16,559.637 tons of synthetic ammonia in September, representing a dramatic 1,204.44% year-on-year surge despite a 39.39% decrease from August. The export average price was $376.93 per ton.

Vietnam and South Korea remained key overseas markets, receiving 9,432.86 tons (56.83%) and 6,965.30 tons (42.06%) respectively.

Central China’s Henan province led export activities with 6,965.299 tons (42.06%), followed by Guangdong’s 5,674.163 tons (34.16%) and Yunnan’s 3,722.32 tons (22.48%).
